Habitat Success Stories

Williams Family

My family and I have lived in Uptown, New Orleans for many years. I was born in 1982 and I am the youngest of 5 siblings. I graduated from Walter L. Cohen Senior High School. My parents always taught me to work hard and I began working at the age of 16 at Winn Dixie.

During Hurricane Katrina, my family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia and of course, we realized that “there is no place like home,” so we moved back to New Orleans and then I began working at Commander’s Palace Restaurant. I was a kitchen manager for 13 years. As much as I liked working in the hospitality industry, it was so busy that I did not have much time to spend with my children. Soon after, I looked for another job and am now employed with Carey Of New Orleans, a limo company in the fleet department.

My sister, Shanell, completed the NOAHH program in 2017. She helped me realize I have been paying someone’s else mortgage over the years when I could be paying for my own, which led me to apply for the First-Time Homebuyer’s Program. It was the best decision I have ever decided to make. I can’t wait to see the smiles on my daughters faces when we walk into our new home. My other sister, Shantel is also going through this program at this time.

The Staff at NOAHH are as supportive as my family members. Thank you to this wonderful organization for giving me this amazing opportunity!
