Habitat Success Stories

Ackerman-Jones Family

My name is Natasha and I was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA to a Jewish mother. I moved to New Orleans in the year 2008 without ever visiting the city before…and Oh Surprise! As soon as I stepped foot in the city, I knew this was where I belong.

Growing up, I sort of felt like something was missing. I was bullied throughout most of my school life, and it was worse as I got older. But, New Orleans welcomed  me and encouraged me to be who I want to and for that I am forever grateful.

When I heard of the opportunity to set down roots here, I jumped on the chance. I had already made New Orleans home, but now I have the opportunity to own a tiny part of the city I love.

I am very grateful to New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity for making my dreams  of becoming a permanent resident in this city a reality. Furthermore, I feel even luckier, as I will live very close to a dear friend’s house, who is also NOAHH partner.
