My name is Emma Varela. I was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. I have been living in New Orleans for the last 8 years. I have a beautiful son named Steven. He is 17 years old and in 12th grade at Riverdale High School. He is a young man with many dreams and aspirations. He likes to play soccer and is a very intelligent young man. He has won many academic competitions to get free passes to the zoo. I feel very happy to have a son like him. I thank God for having a son who sets an example. He wants to be doctor in the future. I know God will help me guide him on the right track because I give him love and set high expectations for him. I have worked as a painter over the years and it has helped me to put food on the table for my son. I enjoy what I do; I like to help others. I am a woman with many strengths and weaknesses, but I always work hard at improving myself. I did not think that I would ever be a homeowner. I thank God for giving me this opportunity to build and own my home.

Thank you New Orleans Habitat for Humanity. Thanks to Rebecca Cottongim, who served us with love and dedication, helped and guided me in this process. A huge thanks to all the volunteers who give their time to help us build our home. The life of my son and I has changed through homeownership through Habitat for Humanity. Thanks Habitat for Humanity for accepting us into your program. I will always be willing to do whatever I can to help the program.

Thanks, Thanks
Blessings to all.
