My name is Dianne Tyler. I grew up in New Orleans as one of eleven children. I currently work at the Renaissance Arts Hotel, where I work in laundry and housekeeping.
I was living with my daughter and grandchildren before Katrina. After the storm, we were separated. They were in Houston, and I was in Atlanta. I came back to New Orleans and stayed with my mother until she died one year later. When she passed, my brothers and sisters began arguing over her house, so I moved into a one bedroom apartment uptown.
One of my daughters returned from Atlanta and is currently living in Metairie. I watch her children two days a week while she attends school, but my place doesn’t have enough space for them. I decided to get a home with Habitat so my family can be together again.
