Habitat Success Stories

Sumler Family

My name is Ja’Nae Sumler and I am 29 years old. I was born in New Orleans and have lived here all of my life. I grew up in Uptown New Orleans. I was raised by my mother and I am the fourth of five children. I was educated through the New Orleans Public School System. I graduated in 2000 from Alcee Fortier Senior High School. In 2004 I received a certification from Delgado Community College in Technical Studies. I graduated in 2009 from Southern University at New Orleans with a Bachelors Degree in General Studies and in 2011 I received a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice.
I am currently employed as a Family Service Worker at Royal Castle Child Development Center which is in partnership with Total Community Action. I am the proud mother of four beautiful kids, Ja’Siris (6), Osirin (5), Jamirin (3), and Na’Jae (1). Ja’Siris is in first grade and enjoys playing with toy cars and trucks. Osirin is in kindergarten and enjoys drawing. Jamirin attends Head Start and enjoys playing with toys. Na’Jae attends Early Head Start and enjoys playing with her brothers. I have always dreamed of becoming a homeowner. I am so proud to give to my kids something that I had while growing up. My mother was a single parent and a homeowner so I knew that it was possible for me to accomplish this goal. I thank God that Habitat for Humanity has given me the opportunity to fulfill my dreams of becoming a homeowner.
