Habitat Success Stories

Miller Family

My husband (Jayson) and I (Roshand) have been married for over 7 years. We have two children, Denise (5) and Ronald (4). In fact, we have just discovered that we are expecting our third child.

It has been a goal of ours to own a home. I am so glad that we chose to sign up with New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity. The experience of building with Habitat is one that I am certain can’t be matched by any other program. It has definitely increased our level of ownership, as we have been intimately involved in the building of our house from the beginning stages. The Habitat experience is one that I will cherish, not only for the experience of building and learning about the inner workings of our house. I will cherish the connections made with the people as well–site supervisors, AmeriCorps workers, and volunteers from across the world.

I, myself, am a native of New Orleans, and I am proud to be able to do my part in rebuilding my home town. We have done this not just in the building of our house, but in the work we have put into the different houses we worked on before ours. New Orleans Habitat is a unique experience that I would definitely recommend to others–and already have.

In a short while, my children will be enjoying their own rooms–something they have not had since it has been the two of them together. We have taken them out to the site a few times to see the progress of the house. They are so excited and can’t wait to move in to the house. We would like to say thank you to Habitat for the journey–lessons we have learned and experiences we have had–and most importantly for our new home.
