Habitat Success Stories

Durosseau Family

I, Sheldonna Durosseau, a life-long native of New Orleans, LA, graduated from John F. Kennedy Senior High School and attended Southern University of New Orleans (SUNO) to major in sociology. After completing one year of college, due to financial funding, I was unable to continue furthering my education. So thereafter I started working in the hospitality industry for the last 12 years as a housekeeper. I grew up with both parents who are homeowners and were volunteer activists of the community for over 20 years until my father passed in 2002. Now that I have my eight year old daughter Aviona J. Fields, who was born three months after Katrina, on November 21, 2005. As a single mother with a low income, I now want to become a homeowner. New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity has given my family this opportunity, and I never dreamed I would be able to purchase a home.
