Habitat Success Stories

Avila Family

My name is Florinda Avila and I was born and raised in Honduras. In the year 2006, I had the opportunity to come to New Orleans, where my two beautiful children were born. They are Ivary Mejia, son, 7 years old and Archeny Mejia, daughter, 5 years old. They both attend school at Phoebe Hearst School in Metairie. We currently rent a two bedroom apartment- poor maintenance and a very expensive rent.

I have been working at the Pere Marquette Hotel, downtown, in the laundry department for the last year and my I was very lucky when my boss Ms. Ernestina told me about Habitat for Humanity in the New Orleans Area. I was able to make an appointment with a Spanish Case Manager and the process was fast. “MY DREAM OF BECOMING A HOMEOWNER IS COMING TRUE. THANK YOU TO HABITAT AND THE STAFF.”
