When I moved to New Orleans from Brooklyn, NY in 2015 I left everything behind- a thriving career, apartment, friends and family. I was ready for a life change and New Orleans felt like the right place for me. Since moving, I’ve developed strong relationships in my community. Habitat for Humanity is one of the first organizations that embraced me and they’ve worked with me to rebuild my credit and help me to become a first time homeowner.
It’s been a long road filled with trials and tribulations, and I’m happy to say that I’ve stayed the course, built new relationships and have developed an understanding and love of my new community. Owning my own home feels like empowerment and signifies a landmark in my life.
