Habitat Success Stories

Wellbrock Family

I was born and raised in New Iberia, Louisiana, the heart of “Cajun Country.”  In 1992 I made the move to New Orleans to work for Maison Blanche Department Store. Since then I have lived in many neighborhoods here in NOLA, Bywater has been home 3 times.

Two years after Katrina I decided to make a move to Atlanta, where I spent  the next 6 years. I was laid off soon after switching jobs and decided it was time to come back “home.”  Call me crazy but even though I was born and raised here I have always been a pretty picky eater and still to this day do not eat seafood. My pickiness led me to cooking for myself and I have become pretty good at it. It’s my happy therapy.

Finally planting roots will give the opportunity to  plant some roots-some of which will aid in my cooking, while others will help beautify the neighborhood I now call home.

I am excited to start this new chapter in life and to be working with New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity and building a home of my own-just in time for my 50th birthday.
