My name is Kaonta Minor. I was born December 13, 1973. I’m a person who always puts God first in my life, and then everything else falls into place. In December 1997 my beautiful daughter was born and in 2002 my handsome son was born. There are not enough words to express how much love I have for my children. I am raising my children in a Christian environment. God says, “Train up a child in the way that he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
I have lots of love for the children I work with. People sometimes ask, “Why did I begin working with children?” It is because I have so much to offer, such as wisdom, knowledge, understanding, motivation, patience and love…well I can go on and on with this. However it was also my children who influenced me to enter into this profession. I care about my children’s future and education, as well as other children’s future and education. The one thing I’ll always remember is how I have helped so many kids develop their wings.
I don’t know what the future holds for me, but the one thing I do know is that my life will always revolve around children. It is the love in my heart and the desire to teach. My motto is to believe, achieve, and accomplish the impossible.
Hurricane Katrina taught me how to conquer the storm and pass the test of time, and then put my best forward even if it rains on my parade. I remember so many people’s houses went under water, including mine. I lost my children’s toys, pictures, furniture, clothing, important papers, car and food. Katrina also had a positive effect since people were able to rebuild and start all over. But as for me I am now renewed, refreshed and ready to transition. Just when I thought my life was like sinking sand, God lifted me up with all power in his hand. Now I’m able to purchase a home through Habitat for Humanity, an organization that not only accepted me but will meet me at my needs and help me achieve my homeowner dreams. Habitat has an amazing homeowner plan that will fit my budget.
In conclusion, I would like to thank everyone at Habitat for Humanity for accepting me into your organization. It’s nice to know that I have someone on my side that can dream my same dream, talk the same talk and walk the same walk in to the journey of homeownership.
