The Nicks family has plans for their new home. Showing people around the newly finished home after the dedication ceremony, Mark Nicks identifies the kitchen as his favorite part, expounding on his plans to cook there extensively. For his girlfriend and himself, the house represents limitless possibilities.
On Wednesday, November 6, NOAHH dedicated the home in New Orleans East for the Nicks family, presenting them with traditional gifts and sharing their joy at this milestone.
Nicks lived in New Orleans his whole life, save a brief time period after Hurricane Katrina, and after spending time living with family and friends upon his return, he found NOAHH. Shortly thereafter, he joined our program and began working toward his own home. Now, he is moving in with his girlfriend and his dogs.
“If it wasn’t for New Orleans Habitat,” Nicks said, “I would not have the chance to own my own home.”
The home is made possible through the Fund for Humanity, a fund created by the mortgages on other NOAHH homes as part of the Habitat for Humanity program.
