Over 50 volunteers from Marriott Hotels throughout the city joined NOAHH on site today to raise the walls one of the first Covenant House rental units that NOAHH is building as part of our new partnership. Covenant House has served the New Orleans area for decades, helping at-risk youth find stability. The new partnership with NOAHH will allow them to continue to help young people who have aged out of foster care or graduated from Covenant House’s program. The rental units will serve as transitional housing for Covenant House’s partners.
Marriott has supported NOAHH for many years, bringing hundreds of volunteers to dozens of build sites throughout the city, sponsoring homes, and hosting outreach events for their employees. A fourth of all of NOAHH’s homeowners work in hospitality and service industries, and many of them are Marriott employees, including three who joined NOAHH on site as volunteers today. Marriott is also a partner with Covenant House, employing participants in their Rites of Passage programs.
NOAHH was joined by Jim Kelly and Madeleine Landrieu of Covenant House and Senator Mary Landrieu for the wall raising. NOAHH Board Member Joe Blanchek, the General Manager of the Marriott Hotel Convention Center, presented a donation to NOAHH Executive Director Jim Pate after the wall raising.
