In times of crisis, we unite to face challenges together. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted Habitat partner families in New Orleans. Nearly half of all New Orleans Habitat homebuyers faced loss of income because of reduced hours or unemployment. In response to the unprecedented situation, New Orleans Habitat is supporting our homebuyers through this crisis by offering a 90-day mortgage deferral and providing safety supplies to alleviate the risks of spreading the virus in their homes.
While we cannot currently take volunteers on our build site or in our ReStores, there are still ways you can support Habitat homebuyers:
We’re Still Building
Though we cannot take volunteers on site at this time, our construction staff continues to build and repair homes using appropriate safety precautions.
PPE and Cleaning Supplies
Our mission is to provide safe and affordable housing. In that spirit, New Orleans Habitat is collecting masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, and cleaning supplies for our homebuyers to help ensure they have what they need to keep their homes as protected as possible from the pandemic. Volunteers can support by making masks or signing up to distribute supplies. Email Volunteer Services to get involved.
No one should have to worry about their home during a pandemic. New Orleans Habitat has offered a 90-day mortgage deferral to all Habitat homeowners in order to support them during this time.
Our ReStores offer affordable home goods and building materials to the public and help fund our programs. We’re offering by-appointment-only pickups of purchases from our online stores: New Orleans and Kenner.
