Donor Profile: Acadian Flooring

At the ReStore, we look forward to seeing familiar faces:  our repeat customers, our core volunteers, and the donors who make a habit of reaching out to us and sending useful items our way. As we all work together to build quality, affordable housing in our community, we develop relationships–and these donors, volunteers, and customers start to feel like our extended family. Today we’d like to thank Acadian Flooring, a local company that also relies on family, for their five years of giving.

Begun by partners Don Barge, Danny Breaux, and Al Dupaquier, Acadian Flooring first opened in 1980 as “Acadian Carpet Center,” a small, family-owned one-store operation. Since then, the business has expanded steadily until it now has five stores in the Greater New Orleans Area, with locations in Kenner, Marrero, Gretna, and Covington.

In addition to expanding into new locations, Acadian Flooring also expanded its line of products. “We provide quality material for customers who want to update their homes, from floors to backsplashes to tubs and showers,” says Brittany Breaux, granddaughter of owner Danny Breaux.

“We do it all: kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms—and our specialty is custom showers.”

Although Acadian Flooring has grown and diversified, it still stays true to its origins. Says Breaux, “A lot of people that work here have been with us pretty much from the beginning. We’re basically an extended family.”

Acadian Flooring began donating to the New Orleans Habitat for Humanity ReStore in 2009 and have been regular donors ever since. “We have material that we’re not using that comes back from a job or have low quantities of because we’ve sold our stock of it,” says Breaux, “and rather than throw that away, why not donate it to someone who can use it?”

For other business owners or individuals thinking of donating to the ReStore, Breaux advises, “If there’s something that you have, that you don’t need but could be still used, donate it to the ReStore! It’s a good deal for everyone involved.” With their free pickup service, they make it easy for interested donors to give.” says Breaux.

Thanks to Acadian Flooring, a business run by an extended family, for helping us to build quality homes for our own partner families.
